The Books "Music For A French Elevator" (Self-Released)

Apparently, in early 2004, The Books were asked by the Ministry of Culture in Paris, France to compose 4 short tracks for their new elevator. Those four tracks lead off this special self-released 3" CD. The CD also includes several 'classic' spoken word tracks culled from The Books' sample libraries.

Those first four tracks are classic Books material. The group does such a beautiful job in mashing together all the different elements that make up their electronic acoustic folk sound. Sadly, the first four tracks run barely over four minutes. The following nine spoken word tracks run for 11 more minutes and are downright annoying at times. Without the addition of the Books music sampling, the spoken word tracks are left feeling extremely bare. They lack the emotional quality that the music seems to add. I recommend this for only the most die-hard Books fans.
