Vetiver “To Find Me Gone” (Dicristina Stair)

Buy it at Insound!

It’s too bad I brushed Vetiver aside numerous times cause of their affiliation with Devendra Banhart. You see, I’m not a big fan of Mr. Banhart. The whole freak-folk movement kinda blows my mind. But, I won’t get started on that. Vetiver’s second album, To Find Me Gone, is quite good and it surely puts to shame all these hyped freak-folk bands.

One thing is for sure when listening to Vetiver. Lead man Andy Cabic has indeed found his niche. Vetiver plays soft folk rock with a truly traveling spirit. There is nothing that really jumps out at you when listening To Find Me Gone. What the band does so remarkably well though is in creating a mood. This is an album in the truest sense of the word. It is an album perfect for lazy summer nights and long drives. To Find Me Gone is remarkably consistent in it’s overall mood and tone as it wanders rather poignantly from track to track. And before you know it the album has ended and you find yourself reaching for the repeat button. To Find Me Gone may be a somber and hazy trip, but it’s certainly one worth taking.
