Full Disclosure

in Random Thoughts

In the interest of full disclosure, I am excited to announce that I will now be working with Beartrap PR. Beartrap was started a few years ago by my buddy Chuck Daley who I worked with at Deep Elm Records. I have watched it grow tremendously and am honored to become a part of that growth. Chuck has worked with some amazing bands and I have covered many of them at SAL over the last few years. Here is Beartrap’s endearing little mission statement:

Beartrap is a DIY promotion and publicity company that’s focused on establishing a strong community with the people who are dedicated to making (or supporting) music for the sake of music.

I am not sure what all of this will mean for SAL. By no means are we dead though. Things might be a little sluggish at times but hopefully I will still be updating the site on a daily basis for the most part. However, this week might be a bit slow as I make the transition.

While it might raise some ethical questions, I assure you SAL will NOT become a Beartrap promotional site. Obviously, as of right now, I will not be reviewing any more Beartrap bands from here on out.

You know where to find me if you have any questions.

    Congratulations on the new gig.

In the spirit of community that you seem to be trying to foster around here, have you considered opening up to guest contributions?

You know, actually perform the duties of an “Editor in Chief” as opposed to “Reviewer, Writer, Editor, Publisher” duties that you currently fulfill.

That way, you’d free up time and effort to your new obligations, keep SAL from stagnation, and bring about the community element you are trying to conjure. I know I’d contribute.

    Just a thought.

Oh — that package I sent — I got it back. Insufficient postage. Rats. I’ll send it out again soon.

Contributors is something I have been considering for a long time now. I go back and forth but, SAL is my baby and it’s hard for me to give up complete control. I will say though, that with me now working with Beartrap, I am leaning towards having contributors soon (probably). Ha.

SAL has been a Beartrap promotional site for the last two years; why change now? Ethics schmethics.

Chuck…shhh! Gah, trying to be kosher here!

You’d still have complete control in terms of what you post and what you don’t.

All submissions should go through you, be approved by you, edited for content by you.

Certain elements should remain solely a Will enterprise. Like Best New Music, for example. Others endorsing albums/bands to that extent would go against the personal nature and spirit of this place — you sharing with others what means most to you.

But if it’s an album review, band dump, guest playlist, or cute little indie rock girl that you would have gotten around to mentioning anyway, why not omit a few steps and accomplish the same goal?

Not pressuring you. Just thinking out loud.

How do I get an icon? I’m growing tired of the “casper at dusk” image that sits there now.

    Congratulations…
SAL is my source for music and I still trust your taste. Except for Teagan and Sarah…

  7. will says:

how dare you misspell sara’s name…you bastard!

  8. brian says:

So, is SAL still going to be geared towards gay porn? I mean, I know Beartrap is a gay porn front… double-dipping the wick?

  9. will says:

    of course…FULL (frontal) disclosure!
