Man Overboard: Hung Up On Nothing

Lesson #1: Don’t start an EP off with an acoustic sing along! A lot of people really hate those acoustic sing alongs and might throw out your disc before even giving the other songs a chance. Ok, now that we have gotten that established, Man Overboard, despite starting off on a bad note, came back to win me over. I am a sucker for well played pop punk and Man Overboard do it quite well on their debut, Hung Up On Nothing. On the other hand, this is probably my least favorite style (think Taking Back Sunday, etc.) of pop punk and there is a huge emphasis on the POP part. The songs also have a tendency to run together…you know, really clean vocals and songs about girls and broken hearts. But there is no denying that Man Overboard are a step above many of their peers. The boys have a knack for writing memorable melodies and that becomes perfectly clear as you reach for the repeat button over and over. Man Overboard show a ton of promise for the future and will be a name that you will see in the future. Bank on it.
