Here’s a new band that I’ve enjoyed listening to of late. Their new album, Have Here, is up for download from Quote Unquote. Archipelago hail from Brooklyn and play a style of indie pop that is for fans of Wheat, Elliott Smith, Seam (a band I haven’t thought of in years) and Slowreader (an underrated gem). While I downloaded because of comparisons to Jimmy Eat World I don’t really hear much of that at all. But anyway, this is good stuff, nice and subtle…you know, wind blowing in fields type of stuff. The band also has some older EPs up for download here.
I have only listened to this once so far but I wanted to go ahead and get it posted cause Mike Law rules! It’s definitely different…Cure-ish dare I say? Check out the interview I did with Mike here. “They are Brooklyn songs and Budapest songs, South Carolina songs and nowhere songs.” Yeah!
New Idea Society is so happy to finally have our new release, the 5 song Quiet Prism EP available for download. It has been such a long process back after the touring crash in Germany we have decided to release this EP both for free and for sale:

These songs are leading up to our full length album which will come out at the end of the Summer. Quiet Prism was recorded with guitars, with synthesizers, with broken bones and with healed bones, then in a few cases erased and re-recorded, re-mixed and now finally done! Thanks to Andy LeMaster (Bright Eyes, Now It’s Overhead) for producing most of this and thanks to Andrew Schneider (Pelican, Unsane) for producing the other.
Touring in the U.S. and Europe coming up the rest of 2010.
Thanks,
NIS

Wow, a new Medications album! It’s hard to believe this is the band’s first material since 2005′s Your Favorite People All In One Place. This new one is entitled CompletelyRemoved and will be out April 20th on Dischord. If you don’t know, Medications includes former members of the influential DC band Faraquet. I’m not quite sure how I feel about this new album just yet, it’s certainly different. It seems more accessible overall and the angular tendencies are toned down for the most part. It almost has a jammy feel to it at times. More listens are needed for sure!
Went to a rock show last night and out of the four bands that I had never seen before, the best was the least “rock” of them all. The Restoration from Lexington, SC stole the show in my eyes. Led by beautiful vocals that remind one of Damien Rice or Andrew Bird, the band can lay down intricate arrangements as well as ratchet up the noise when they want to. The Restoration give off a cool Murder By Death-vibe at times as well. In exchange for your email address you can visit the band’s Bandcamp page and get some free songs. Check out “Constance” and “Reverend Samuel Harper” especially…well worth your time!
If you didn’t know Tiny Engines is a label I started with two other guys in 2008. This will be our third release overall. 2010 will be much busier for us than our first two years. We’ve got 2 or 3 more releases coming this year!

Tiny Engines is pleased to announce that it will release the Self-Titled debut full-length from Philadelphia’s Everyone Everywhere.
The album, which will be released in vinyl and digital formats on May 04, 2010, is now up for pre-order from the label. Tiny Engines will press 500 12-inches on maroon and off-white colorways (350 / 150). To secure a copy of this amazing record, go here.
The band is currently streaming two brand new songs, “Tiny Boat” and “Blown Up Grown Up,” on its Myspace page.
Everyone Everywhere’s eponymous debut builds on the rock-solid foundation laid down on last year’s dynamic 7″, A Lot Of Weird People Standing Around, and further pushes the band’s sonic palette in exciting new directions at every turn. Sure, those lovely Promise Ring vibes remain – not to mention hints of Braid’s twisting-yet-tuneful angularity, the crackling anti-anthems of indie heroes Superchunk and Piebald’s off-kilter sense of melody – but the Philly four piece has honed its songwriting chops, dialed in its amps and seriously upped the ante with this emotionally taut ten-song affair.
On a related note, Everyone Everywhere and Evil Weevil Records, the label responsible for the 7″ version of A Lot Of Weird People Standing Around, have teamed up with the awesome folks at If You Make It to give away a digital copy of the 4-song effort. To download this sweet little release, completely free from financial obligation, go here.
120 on SAL contributor Jeff Takacs has a podcast called Rocket Fuel that you should definitely be checking out! The new episode is up, #35 to be exact. You can see the full tracklisting and more details on the Rocket Fuel site.
It’s hard to believe this is Aloha‘s fifth album. Seems like just yesterday the band appeared on the scene. The band are one of those rare breeds that seem to stand on their own outside of any genre tagging. But one listen to Home Acres and you can tell this just might be Aloha at their most upbeat and most accessible. Home Acres is available from Polyvinyl with a release date of 2/26/10.
so, the new episode of Waitlisted Radio is up! our first playlist features higher giant and pj bond (as well as lissie, we will eat rats to survive, and the loved ones). the second playlist was put together by pj himself when he was in town and we have a little intro he recorded to go along with it. we also have a loved ones interview on the episode. there is also a 3 cd giveaway, one of which is pj’s cd.
