How many bands have spawned from New Mexican Disaster Squad? I swear it seems like there is a new one popping up every week. Virgins is the new gig from ex-NMDS singer Sam Johnson and Miscarriage is the band’s debut. Frankly, this album has been a tough sell for me. The vibe from the cover art gives off a bit of a goth punk type of feel but Virgins are really more old school punk than anything. In regards to modern bands, this reminds me of Dead To Me a lot. However that band is much more polished whereas Virgins live on the rough side of town on the wrong side of the tracks. I don’t mind listening to this but there is not much here that grabs a firm hold of me when the album ends. For fans of dirty and snotty punk rock I say give these guys a go though. I am interested to hear what the band does next so I guess that says something.
